“Dr. Lindsey Hershberger is so very knowledgeable and expert at getting my son Todd to do the very tough movements he has to do to restore balance and mobility that was lost due to an auto accident in 1985. Yes even after all this time she is helping Todd's body/brain to recover abilities. And she makes it fun!” -Judy
“Lindsey has been amazing! She creates effective, creative, interactive, and fun therapy sessions. We are seeing progress with each session and are so grateful for all she is doing for our son. She is really great at implementing specific ways to help improve areas my son needs help with every session. It's simple to schedule and she is quick to respond to all our questions. My son looks forward to meeting with Lindsey every week and we are excited for her to continue helping my son reach his full potential! Lindsey is amazing at what she does and our community is lucky to have her!” -Kristen
"Thank you! The exercises you gave my husband and I are so practical for our everyday life and targeted especially for us. They are so constructive. The more we do them, the stronger we feel, especially in regard to our balance. We truly appreciated the privacy of having you as our sole instructor without a lot of distraction around us. It was much needed and very enjoyable!" -Annette
“Over that last four months, Lindsey has helped me increase my strength, balance and endurance to levels I never thought I could achieve. My walking speed and posture have improved significantly. She truly appreciates my effort and is very encouraging. She works hard to create routines that help me get better at each session. The sessions are exhausting but you leave feeling better about yourself.
I can truly see the difference in everyday life! My challenges have become easier to overcome and I have become more confident and independent. Enrolling in Lindsey’s program has been the best decision I could have made to continue my post-stroke recovery. I encourage you to talk to Lindsey at Empower Balance, if you want the opportunity to improve and change your life!” -Alan
There’s more to your story. Let’s unlock your full potential with the power of neuroplasticity.
Learn more about why we do, what we do in the video below.
“Exercise is one of the most transformative things you can do for your brain. It not only improves cognitive function, but through neuroplasticity, it strengthens and reorganizes brain networks. Personalized exercises maximize these benefits by addressing an individual’s unique neurological challenges.”
Dr. Wendy Suzuki, neuroscientist and author of Healthy Brain, Happy Life
Expert Insights:
“Neuroplasticity is the property of the brain that allows it to change its structure and function in response to experience, including specific, targeted exercises. Personalized exercise programs are crucial because they engage the brain's natural capacity to rewire itself through practice.”

Wait times vary from days to months and are impacted by the needs of our current clients and your scheduling flexibility. Current clients have priority scheduling and are offered the opportunity to renew halfway through their scheduled programs. While some clients complete only one or two rounds of their program before taking all the good stuff they learned to exercise on their own, others prefer to continue the benefits of individualized coaching and renew their programs continuously. Once a client chooses not to renew their program, we then offer appointments to the next person on the wait list. We promise, these programs are worth the wait! When you are next on the waitlist, we will reach out to you by both text and email with options to schedule your first appointment. If we do not hear back from you within one week, we move on to the next person on the wait list.

First of all, congratulations! You are are already heading in the right direction. Now its time to make sure your journey to progress is as direct and impactful as possible. While any exercise is a good thing, not all exercise is created equal when it comes to protecting your brain and improving your mobility. What you do and how you do to it matters. You are already putting in the work. Let’s elevate your impact by personalizing your exercise to your deficits, fitness level and goals.

We see the most impact when your movement medicine is personalized to your symptoms, fitness level and goals. Just as your doctor prescribes different medicines for different problems, the same concept applies to your movement medicine. Specificity matters. Exercise to improve walking looks different than exercise to improve posture which looks different than exercise to improve balance. A similar concept applies to exercise dosage. Just as doctors prescribe medication dosages individually, for long term brain protection, achieving a consistent, moderate to high intensity dosage is key for brain health. Moderate intensity exercise for you looks different than moderate intensity for your neighbor. The same exercise may be low intensity for you but high intensity for someone else. Expect more obvious positive impact on your daily life and long term brain health, when your exercise is personalized to you compared with generalized exercise.

The benefits of exercise can be thought of in two categories: - Neuroprotection: Protecting your brain against the degeneration that comes with aging and sedentary lifestyle
- Neuroplasticity: forming new connections around the areas of the brain impacted by injury or illness. Imagine disconnecting the damaged wires in your brain and reconnecting with new wires to make different pathways. These new paths help you to feel and function better each day.
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), is a protein in your brain that promotes both neuroprotection and neuroplasticity. Think of BDNF as a fertilizer for the brain. The levels of BDNF are reduced in many neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s. Exercise helps “fill up your BDNF” tank, resulting in better neuroprotection and neuroplasticity.
